# Welcome to the Zapnito docs

> Connect your systems to your organisation's Zapnito community using the API and webhooks.

Zapnito is the platform organisations use to run their own branded expert knowledge communities. These docs show you how to connect your systems to your community, so users, content and activity stay in sync with the tools you already use.

## Develop with Zapnito

Start with the way you want to integrate. Each option has its own section with an overview, authentication details and a reference for every endpoint or event.

> **[API](/api/v1/overview)**
>
> Read and manage users, groups, organisations, content and badges in your community with the REST API.

> **[Webhooks](/webhooks/overview)**
>
> Get notified when something happens in your community, such as a new user or a published piece of content.

## Choose an approach

Pick the option that matches the job. You can combine them: for example, use a webhook to hear about new content, then call the API to look up the details.

| If you want to | Use | How it works |
| - | - | - |
| Create, read or update data in your community | [API](/api/v1/overview) | Your systems send requests to Zapnito. |
| React to activity in your community as it happens | [Webhooks](/webhooks/overview) | Zapnito sends a request to your URL. |

## Get started with the API

**1. Have your API token ready**

Every request is authenticated with an API token sent in the `Authorization` header. See [authentication](/api/v1/authentication).

**2. Validate your token**

Send a request to the [ping endpoint](/api/v1/ping) to confirm Zapnito accepts your token.

**3. Call an endpoint or subscribe to an event**

Pick a resource from the [API resources](/api/v1/overview#resources), or choose an event from the [webhook events](/webhooks/overview#events).

## Explore the reference

> **[API resources](/api/v1/overview#resources)**
>
> Browse every resource, from users and invitations to channels, rooms and badges.

> **[Webhook events](/webhooks/overview#events)**
>
> Browse every event and its payload, from user registrations to discussion replies.
